MERIDIANA
A watch is photographed through a piece of glass that wants to be a mirror. Everything else is easy by comparison.
Watch photography has one real problem: the crystal. It is flat, it is polished, and at any useful angle it reflects the entire studio straight into the lens, so the dial, which is the product, goes behind a white sheet of nothing.
In a real studio the answer is a polariser. Here the crystal is simply told to ignore the panels: it stops mirroring them, keeps its edge and its refraction, and the dial comes back. The move is small. The reason for it is photographic rather than technical.
What is left is a job of millimetres. The case is forty-two of them across, the indices are four tenths thick, and the image lives or dies on whether the polished bezel turns cleanly where it meets the case.
